A PILLOW FOR THE UNDEFEATED FALCONS

Three words; “The Atlanta Falcons”.  Read them again, nice and slow.  The Atlanta Falcons… Normally those words don’t elicit much respect and have seemingly never put much fear into opposing teams, no matter how much the Falcons or NFL Films might have tried to boost that image over the years.  In the recent past, John Facenda, a.k.a., “The Voice of God” could have returned from the dead to help the image of the Falcons when they were playoff bound, but inevitably the vision of the Falcons as some football juggernaut has always been fatally flawed.  Maybe it was bad karma from the “Dirty Bird”? After all, that scarecrow of a dance never scared anybody.  Neither did Deion Sanders for his physicality on the football field, but I digress.

The truth is, the undefeated Atlanta Falcons are not getting much respect because everyone is expecting that these eventual winners of the NFC South (barring some act of God) will ultimately fail.  They are riding high, they are perfect, but the expectation is that they will fail.

What gives you ask?  I'll tell you.  Their 6-0 record might be the best in the NFL, but four of those wins have come against AFC teams; Chiefs, Broncos, Chargers and Raiders.  The Falcons are enjoying a bye this week, but if they continue to rattle off the wins and get to 10-0 by beating the Eagles, Cowboys, Saints and Cardinals, not only will the football world be paying attention, but paying some much overdue respect too.

To all my Atlanta Armchair Quarterback friends out there enjoying the bye, rest easy my friends, rest easy.   Your team might actually be contending for something special this year.
